The Nursery

I was so inspired by David The Good’s book on creating a home-based plant nursery that I had to do it myself. It’s definitely not for everyone, but it’s a business I really enjoy and want to get better at.

I have officially obtained the appropriate nursery licenses and I have one or two more formalities to go through before everything is ready in the spring, but everything is legal!

This will be the first edible perennial-focused nursery in Ottawa County (to my knowledge) focused on building up local food sovereignty and resilience!

I want to specialize in edible and medicinal plants that do well in the region and are locally adapted to the climate. The goal is to help people grow resilient food systems for themselves and to practice what I write about on here!

I plan to eventually grow all of my own stock myself and have all special localized varieties but I have to start somewhere! This year at least will be fairly basic.

One important note: Right now I can ONLY do local pickup. Eventually I would love to have a website and deliver, but that’ll have to wait for now!

So for anyone who lives around here (or within driving distance) it’s my pleasure to introduce you to West Michigan Food Forest Nursery!

Share, spread the word, and tell everyone you know to plant a food forest!
